SOMM Recordings marks the 150th Anniversary of the great French-American conductor Pierre Monteux (1875-1964) with his live performances of Claude Debussy's Images pour orchestre and Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms. These 1961 broadcasts, featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, have been superbly remastered by Lani Spahr, whose critically acclaimed audio restorations for SOMM have received high praise from Gramophone, BBC Radio 3, and The Sunday Times, amongst many others. While Monteux was born 150 years ago this past April, his death came 61 years ago-still within the lifetime of many present-day music lovers. He was, therefore, a link with the musical past, and enjoyed professional relationships with both the composers on this recording. By the early 1910s, Monteux had a reputation as the leading French conductor of the younger generation, and Debussy chose him to prepare the world premiere of Images pour orchestre, which Debussy himself conducted in January 1913. Debussy's colourful orchestration of his original piano work opens with "Gigues," inspired loosely by English and Scottish folk-tunes. At the heart of Images is "Iberia," of which Manuel de Falla said, "There is more real Spain in 'Iberia' than in all of Albeniz's work." The more veiled final movement, "Rondes de printemps," ultimately brings Images to a superb full-orchestra climax.Monteux's first conducting position was with Paris's Colonne Orchestra, which Sergei Diaghilev engaged for the 1910 season of the Ballets Russes, and Monteux came into contact with Stravinsky's music when he played viola in the company's premiere of The Firebird. At the request of Stravinsky, he conducted the premiere of Petrushka in 1911, and he led the famously riotous first performance of The Rite of Spring in 1913.When Monteux was conscripted into the army during World War I, Diaghilev persuaded the French government to discharge him so that he could direct the Ballets Russes on a North American tour. The success of this tour led to Monteux's five-year tenure as chief conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His successor there was the Russian maestro Serge Koussevitzky who, in 1931, commissioned a number of leading composers-including Stravinsky-to write commemorative works marking the 50th anniversary of the BSO. Stravinsky's offering was his Symphony of Psalms for chorus and orchestra. Composed in a Neo-classical style with a nod to Bach's oratorios, it is one of the great choral works of the 20th century, creating a unique, ritualistic atmosphere in the setting of three psalm texts in Latin. These live recordings from late in Monteux's life, demonstrating his profound and personal insights into the works of Debussy and Stravinsky, are paired with a Pierre Monteux tribute from violinist Alex Nifosi.

This is Truly the Best Pillow!
Size: Queen
This is the side sleeper version of the best pillow out there. My 26 year old son was always complaining about his pillow and his neck and back hurting. About every year I’d buy him the next “best” pillow promising to be the best but they never worked for him. I read an article saying THIS pillow was the “Goldilocks” of pillows. So since he sleeps in all positions, I got him the regular shaped pillow. The next morning after his first night with the pillow, he came out of his room talking about how wonderful his pillow is. Same thing the next morning. And the next. And the next. Then I thought to myself, my current pillow is the best I’ve had but I’m not in love with it. But I’m a side sleeper so I purchased this particular contoured pillow for me. NOW I UNDERSTOOD WHAT MY SON WAS TALKING ABOUT. I became the person who went on and on about my pillow. Until my husband told me to replace his with one of these side sleeping versions for himself. And he loves it. Then we got a regular pillow (for those who sleep in all positions, but this same company) for our guests. My best friend came to visit, immediately noticed the pillow upgrade from previous visits and when she returned home, she purchased one for herself. This pillow is like a feather pillow except it is filled with tiny squares of memory foam. And it comes with an extra pack of stuffing, so you can add or remove stuffing to customize it perfectly for you. None of us in the house added filling, and my son removed some that came with his pillow. I also sleep with a body pillow and have for years. And I was wishing this came in a body pillow version until I realized I could make my own. I bought a zippered body pillow case. The larger size. I think it was 54 inches long. And I bought a king size pillow and used the extra stuffing pack that came with that pillow along with the 4 packs that came with the other pillows that we didn’t use. Though you could probably do the same thing with two standard size pillows. These pillows are on the expensive side but they go on sale during every holiday. That’s when I purchase them. Oh and my body pillow is HEAVEN. Between that and the pillow, I spend my nights in fluffy cloud goodness.

Not as great as I was hoping.
Size: Queen
I was hoping this was going to be my miracle pillow. I have had terrible neck pain for years. It arrived with too much stuffing. Removed some and it caused terrible occipital headaches. I’ve slowly been adding stuffing, hoping to find the right fit.

Best pillow ever!!!
Size: Sapphire Queen
I have actually tried dozens and dozens of pillows in my life, and dozens in the past three years, but this is it. Some cheap, some very very expensive, and some very famous brands. This one beats them all. So awesome and comfortable (side sleeper). I tried one and loved it so much I ordered a second right away. It is exactly what I've been searching for forever!!! Stays in shape, extremely comfortable. Only thing is you definitely need a 32" pillowcase to cover it, and I wish they made a 34" pillowcase, but no luck. I used the pillow the same night and it's definitely worth the money. No neck pain, super squishy but supportive, and no odor.

Great pillow
Size: Sapphire King, Size: Sapphire King
Super comfy pillow. Fluffs up without any issues and it was the first night in a long time I wasn't allover the bed trying to get comfortable. I appreciate the fact that the material in the pillow can be washed. The prefill was perfect for me so I did not need to remove or add but I like the option to do so. 10/10

Way fluffy, good support
Size: Sapphire Queen
This pillow is way fluffy. It does fit into a standard pillowcase with a little tugging and stuffing. Worth it though, as it’s cool and provides more support than a usual side sleeper pillow. I’m not using the extra stuffing that comes with it as the firmness is fine for me right out of the box.
